BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The mother of a mentally ill man shot by a Winooski police officer in 2013 has filed suit against the northwest Vermont city and the now former officer.
The Burlington Free Press reports (http://bfpne.ws/1SGwRVr ) Doris Sage filed the complaint in federal court last week on behalf of her son, 38-year-old Isaac Sage, who was shot by Jason Nokes while suffering a "serious mental health crisis" in April 2013.
The complaint states that Isaac Sage punched the former Cpl. Nokes, who responded by shooting him in the leg. Sage has a history of mental health issues.
Sage accuses the city and Nokes of negligence, assault and battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress on her son.
Nokes couldn't be reached for comment. Winooski officials declined to comment on the allegations.
