SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's liquor commissioners have sidestepped questions about a Salt Lake City movie theater that could be punished for serving drinks during a screening of the movie "Deadpool." The commission's vice chairman said Tuesday during its first meeting since the theater filed a lawsuit over the incident that it would not comment, but highlighted the fact that it doesn't create the laws. It only enforces them.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republican Gov. Gary Herbert is expected to use his name recognition and considerable campaign funds to try to beat back a primary challenge from businessman Jonathan Johnson this summer. Herbert, who has been governor since 2009, was dealt a blow over the weekend when several thousand core members of Utah's GOP favored Johnson at their state convention.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has named a new managing director of public affairs to oversee its widespread media operation. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Richard Eyring Turley Jr., who is the church's assistant historian and recorder, was appointed to the position Tuesday.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Federal forest officials are planning a major prescribed fire along the Continental Divide in a remote section of southern New Mexico. The Area 74 burn is part of the U.S. Forest Service's $375 million campaign to clean up overgrown forests and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires as things heat up and dry out around the country.
