LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada residents who don't quite make the cut for the University of Nevada Las Vegas will now be encouraged to attend community college instead of receiving rejection letters. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that students who are rejected from UNLV but instead enroll at the College of Southern Nevada will be automatically transferred to the university if they fulfill a list of requirements.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Two people are dead and a suspected drunk driver is in custody following a vehicle collision in Sparks. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 10 p.m. Saturday when a Honda was rear-ended. The two occupants of the Honda died from their injuries. The suspect was arrested after allegedly fleeing on foot.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A new report raising the likelihood of a destructive earthquake striking Salt Lake City in the next half century has underscored the urgency to retrofit more than 30,000 older brick homes and other unreinforced buildings at high risk of collapsing. It's also getting attention in neighboring Nevada where a significant quake is overdue along the Sierra and officials are anxious to see if Utah's bid for pre-disaster money succeeds.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Firefighters say nobody was injured when a grease fire broke out in a Las Vegas hotel. The Clark County Fire Department says the fire was reported just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the Palms Hotel Casino. Crews on the scene found a grease fire had erupted in one of the kitchens. The fire was extinguished very quickly.
