I may have to give up jogging for biking. My family spent the past weekend in the Sun Valley Idaho area. On Saturday, we biked from Hailey to Sun Valley, Idaho which is about 27 miles round trip. I'm not saying that's an amazing feat. But what I did notice about it is that even though I hadn't been on a bike in more than a year I wasn't the least bit sore the next day. My leg muscles were a little bit tired, but they certainly didn't hurt.
The same certainly can't be said for running. I used to run about five miles a day, but stopped running over the winter. When I started back up in the Spring, I thought I should be able to run a few miles and I did, but then I couldn't move the next day. In fact, it took me most of the week to recover.
I would definitely recommend the bike ride from Hailey to Sun Valley. Not only do they have a wonderful trails system, it's not a difficult ride for families. Any child over nine will be able to make the trek. Plus, it's a beautiful ride. Our reward was lunch on the patio at The Sun Valley Lodge. It was a bit pricey, but worth it because the kids could also watch the ice skaters practicing for their evening performance. We all enjoyed watching Brian Boitano. According to the Sun Valley Lodge Website, the ice rink features various celebrities into September.
