SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns are paying more at the gas pump this month.

Utah AAA reported Tuesday that pump prices jumped 10 cents in the past seven days and 28 cents over the past month.

The average price registered at $2.10 per gallon, which is still 43 cents lower than the same time a year ago. Across the country, 13 states reported higher average prices than the Beehive State.

Statewide, each of the Utah cities surveyed in the AAA report registered double-digit hikes over March, with the highest increase — 36 cents — located in Salt Lake City, and the lowest increase of 26 cents found in Vernal. St. George reported the highest average price at $2.22 a gallon.

“Prices are likely to fluctuate as the supply of summer-blend gasoline continues to make its way to terminals nationwide,” said AAA Utah spokesperson Rolayne Faircoulgh. “Refineries are increasing their utilization rates following spring maintenance, and the U.S. Energy Information Administration reports an increase in domestic gasoline inventories. Barring any major disruptions, pump prices should remain relatively steady in the coming weeks.”

Nationally, the average price has climbed above the $2 mark. The current price — $2.06 — is 14 cents higher than a month ago, but 33 cents less than a year ago. California registered the highest price at $2.77 per gallon, followed by Hawaii at $2.62.

At the other end of the spectrum, average prices in 20 states are under the $2 mark, with drivers in Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina all paying $1.84 per gallon.
