BRUSSELS (AP) — Two French officials say that a fugitive suspect in the November Paris attacks has been arrested in Belgium. And one of the officials tells The Associated Press that the suspect, Mohamed Abrini, is believed to be the mysterious "man in the hat" who escaped the double bombing at the Brussels airport. If true, that would link him to both the Paris and Brussels attacks. The Belgian federal prosecutor's office says only that it has made "several arrests," one day after Belgian authorities released photos and video of the airport suspect.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A senior U.S. official says an airman shot his commander in an apparent murder-suicide at a U.S. Air Force base in San Antonio. Officials at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland haven't identified the two men found dead today at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The general who oversees the base says the shooting was not an act of terrorism. The FBI is taking over the investigation.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Austin's police chief says a 17-year-old suspect will be charged with murder in the killing of a University of Texas dance major. Austin's police chief says Meechaiel Criner (mih-kah-EEL' KRY'-nur) is in custody in Travis County Jail and that he will be formally charged this afternoon in the slaying of 18-year-old Haruka Weiser (hah-ROOK'-uh WY'-zur). The chief says the suspect was apprehended thanks to tips from the community, including the local fire department, which recognized the suspect from campus surveillance video.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Justice Department says it will continue trying to force Apple to reveal a phone's data in a New York drug case. The government told a Brooklyn judge today that it still wants an order requiring Apple's cooperation even though it no longer needs the company's help with a phone linked to the shootings in San Bernardino, California. The Justice Department recently dropped a legal fight with Apple in that case after someone the FBI calls an "outside party" provided the tool it needed to get into the phone.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department says the Syrian government has released an American freelance photographer who was captured after entering the country about four years ago. U.S. officials say Kevin Patrick Dawes was turned over to authorities from Russia, which has been backing the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad in its civil war. Officials say the photographer from San Diego was abducted in 2012.
