GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) — Lander athletic director Jeff May is leaving after the 2016-17 school year.
May has led the department the past 19 seasons and said in a statement Monday it was time for him to walk away.
May has been part of Lander athletics for more than 40 years. He played basketball there in the early 1970s and still holds school scoring marks for most points in a career at 1,986 and in a game at 49. May was a charter member of the school's athletic hall of fame and had his No. 30 retired by Lander.
May has also served the NCAA Division II school as coach and in several administrative roles.
Lander's recently constructed sports area was named the Jeff May Sports Complex in May's honor.
