PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Disability Law Center has opened its own examination into the February death of a resident at a state-run group home.
The law center's supervising attorney told The Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/21I7cxS ) Wednesday that the center contacted the remaining residents at the College Park Apartments, a group home in Providence for adults with developmental disabilities.
She says the center requested access to records, including investigation records from the state Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.
The department, which operates the home, has said the home will close by March 25 and the 14 residents will be moved to new homes beforehand.
The 70-year-old woman's death is being investigated by the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit. State police confirmed Wednesday that they're also investigating.
