BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Michael O'Neill has signed a new four-year contract to coach Northern Ireland after steering the team to the European Championship, its first major tournament since 1986.
O'Neill, who won 31 caps for Northern Ireland as a player, has been in charge of the team since 2012.
The 46-year-old O'Neill's new deal runs through June 2020.
Northern Ireland was the first fifth-seeded team to win a European Championship qualifying group, finishing above Romania, Hungary, Finland and Greece in Group F.
Northern Ireland will play Poland, Ukraine, and Germany in the Euro 2016 group stage.
