BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Caleb Paine of San Diego came from behind Saturday in the Finn European Championship to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic sailing team.

Paine entered the final race needing to beat two-time Olympian Zach Railey of Clearwater, Florida, by 10 places or more. Paine finished seventh while Railey finished 44th in the 90-boat fleet.

The Finn European Championship served as the second of two U.S. Olympic selection regattas.

Railey won the silver medal in the Finn class at Beijing in 2008. Paine began his Finn career prior to the 2012 Olympics as Railey's training partner, and the two have challenged each other for much of the past six years.

Railey's sister, Paige, has earned a spot on her second straight Olympic team in the Laser Radial.

The U.S. failed to medal in sailing in London.
