OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The University of Oklahoma plans to build a new physics academic building with more than 18,000 square feet of laboratory space and a rooftop observatory.

University President David Boren announced Wednesday the Avenir Foundation and former faculty member Chun C. Lin provided lead donations to build the new facility south of Nielsen Hall. The new building is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2019.

The university's diabetes research and treatment efforts will also receive a boost in the form of a $3 million gift from the Chickasaw Nation. This money will help pay for endowed salaries for researchers and renovate facilities.

Another $1.5 million donation from the Inasmuch Foundation will fund a renovation of collaborative space in the law library.
