OGDEN, Utah (AP) — The mother of a 17-year-old who died at the Clearfield Job Corps Center due to complications with diabetes has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Standard-Examiner reports Adriana Delaluz's suit seeks unspecified damages for the March 2014 death of Isela Huerta Carranza, who was a resident at the center.

According to the suit, the girl had stayed overnight at a friend's house without her insulin before going into cardiac arrest back at the center.

The suit alleges employees were negligent in monitoring Carranza and handling her diabetic condition.

Delaluz also claims staff made "defamatory statements" that her daughter had consumed alcohol or drugs during the overnight stay, although toxicology tests confirmed there were no drugs or alcohol in the girl's system.

A spokesman for the center declined comment, citing the pending litigation.
