SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man accused of murdering three people inside an SUV has been held in the Salt Lake County Jail for two weeks. But it may be another week and a half before any criminal charges are filed against him.
Gerald Radckiff Grant, 19, whose last known address was in Miami, Florida, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Feb. 22 for investigation of three counts of aggravated murder in the shooting deaths of Armando Cuenca-Curiel, 17, and brothers Raul Lopez, 19, and Angel Lopez, 20. All were shot inside a Ford Explorer stopped in the middle of the road at 325 E. Park Creek Lane (3060 South) on Feb. 18.
Grant showed up at a local hospital about 2 ½ hours after the shooting, according to police. Investigators believe he was picked up in one vehicle at the scene and was passed around in a couple of cars before he was driven to the hospital. He was shot in the thigh.
He was released from the hospital on Feb. 22 and was immediately booked into jail.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office filed a motion on Feb. 24 to hold Grant in jail until March 16 as they prepare formal charges.
In his motion, deputy district attorney Vince Meister said he needs time to "finish interviewing witnesses, compiling physical evidence, obtaining medical records and complete forensic testing."
A judge agreed to the motion, extending the time Grant can be held in jail without charges until 5 p.m. on March 16.
Bail was set at $2 million.
