QUERETARO, Mexico (AP) — Yerson Candelo and Edgar Benitez scored in the second half to help Queretaro beat DC United 2-0 on Tuesday night in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series.

Candelo, a Colombian striker, converted a powerful shot from outside the box in the 71st. Benitez sealed the win in the 84th.

The Mexican side, currently in 13th place in the Mexican Clausura, needs a draw or a 1-0 loss to progress to the semifinals. The second leg will be played next Wednesday in Washington.

Queretaro, the 2015 Clausura runner-up, is playing in this tournament for the first time in its history.

DC United remains winless in five games against Mexican teams.
