OGDEN — An Ogden man is facing 28 felony charges after police say he used a cellphone to record himself sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.
Esau Perez-Alvaengo, 34, was charged in 2nd District Court with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, on Jan. 31. Those charges are in addition to rape of a child, a first-degree felony, and 25 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, that were filed against Perez-Alvaengo in November.
Investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force searched Perez-Alvaengo's Ogden home on Feb. 3 as they investigated a sexual exploitation case. There they discovered two cellphones that appeared to have pornographic images of children, according to charging documents.
Investigators reviewing the evidence later recognized that a girl in a video on Perez-Alvaengo's phone appeared to be the same victim in the sexual exploitation case, court documents state.
The girl was interviewed at the Children's Justice Center and did not disclose any abuse, investigators said. However, in an interview at the Weber County Sheriff's Office, Perez-Alvaengo waived his Miranda rights and allegedly told police he had sexually abused the girl, using his cellphone to record the incident.
Perez-Alvaengo also told police he had downloaded and stored child pornography on his laptop, where investigators found more than 50 images and 40 videos, according to charging documents.
Perez-Alvaengo is being held without bail in Weber County Jail. A hearing in the case is scheduled for Feb. 22.
