LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas football fans won't miss the Super Bowl after all. Cox Communications says it has struck a deal with the local CBS affiliate, ending a bitter rate dispute between the cable provider and KLAS-TV that had threatened Sunday's championship. Both sides refused to release details on the agreement, which reinstates the channel to Cox's lineup.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The jailed leader of the armed group that took over a national wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon is speaking out after he and 15 others were indicted by a federal grand jury. Ammon Bundy struck a defiant tone in an audio recording released by his family. Bundy defended taking over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge as a way to educate people about injustices by federal officials toward ranchers and others. FBI agents, Oregon State Police and other law enforcement officers are deployed around the refuge as four occupiers remain holed up there.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A preliminary hearing was reset to April 6 for a 23-year-old Nevada state prison inmate facing murder charges in a fight-night slaying last May on the Las Vegas Strip. DeAngelo Mathews is already serving seven to 12 years in prison for a separate robbery and conspiracy conviction. A prosecutor and defense attorneys didn't immediately respond to later to messages.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The national kayak championships will be held in Reno this year. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the 2016 U.S. National Whitewater Freestyle Championships will be held during the Reno River Festival at the Truckee River Whitewater Park. The event will be in May.
