TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott has declared a health emergency in four counties. At least nine cases of the mosquito-borne Zika (ZEE'-kuh) illness have been detected in Florida. Health officials believe the people contracted the disease while traveling overseas. The Zika virus has been linked to brain deformities in babies.
CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) — President Barack Obama has visited a mosque outside Baltimore to preach tolerance toward Muslim-Americans. In his first visit to a U.S. mosque, the president said those who demonize all Muslims for the acts of a few are playing into extremists' hands. Obama said, "An attack on one faith is an attack on all our faiths." He said it fell on all Americans to speak up.
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Democrats have finalized an agreement with the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders to hold a presidential debate tomorrow night in New Hampshire. Three more debates will follow in the spring. Clinton and Sanders will face off tomorrow at the University of New Hampshire just days before Tuesday's first-in-the-nation primary.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks closed mostly higher after a surge in the price of crude oil gave a break to the beaten-down energy sector. The Dow rose 183 points, or 1.1 percent, to 16,336. The S&P gained nine points to 1,912. The Nasdaq dropped 12 points to 4,504.
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Bob Elliott, half of the enduring television and radio comedy team Bob and Ray, has died. He was 92. Elliott was the father of actor-comedian Chris Elliott. He died yesterday at his home in Cundy's Harbor, Maine, according to a funeral home director. Elliott's longtime comedy partner, Ray Goulding, died in 1990.
