TOOELE — Susan Hunt, the mother of a man shot and killed by police in 2014, was charged Friday in Tooele County Justice Court with DUI.

Hunt, 53, of Saratoga Springs, was charged with DUI, a class B misdemeanor; reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, an infraction; and driving on the wrong side of the road, an infraction; following an incident with the Utah Highway Patrol Tuesday night near Stockton.

UHP troopers said they had to use their patrol cars to block Hunt after they spotted her driving recklessly and on the wrong side of the road. She exhibited bizarre and sometimes combative behavior as troopers tried to negotiate with her for 13 minutes to get out of her car, a UHP report states.

Hunt was eventually handcuffed and taken to a local hospital after calling troopers "evil" and telling them she wished their children would die, according to the report.

Hunt's son, Darrien, 22, was shot and killed as he ran from Saratoga Springs police in 2014 after he was questioned about carrying a souvenir katana sword near a business area.

Two months after his death, in November of 2014, Susan Hunt was charged in Saratoga Springs Justice Court after getting into a confrontation with police. The charges included interfering with an arresting officer. The case was settled in September. As part of the resolution, the misdemeanor charges against her would be dismissed in six months if she violated no other laws and completed grief counseling.

Hunt is also currently in a legal dispute with the city of Saratoga Springs and the police department over a federal civil lawsuit she filed against them.
