LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a 35-year-old man wounded by Las Vegas police faces multiple felony auto theft, assault and weapon charges. Records show that Gilberto Gutierrez also faces a misdemeanor possession of burglary tools charge when he's released from a hospital. Police say Gutierrez pointed a handgun at officers chasing him.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal judge has refused to grant a new trial for a Nevada trucking company ordered to pay more than $4.5 million in damages to Amtrak after a truck slammed into a passenger train at a rural highway crossing in 2011, killing six people. A jury in Reno returned the verdict in September 2014 against the Battle Mountain-based John Davis Trucking. The judge ruled the verdict was reasonable.

PHOENIX (AP) — The ex-wife of a leader in a polygamous church teared up in court when recalling how she was isolated from her children and feared even authorities would help hide them from her. Charlene Jeffs, who was married to ex-Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints leader Lyle Jeffs, testified at a trial in Phoenix in which the federal government alleges that two towns in Arizona and Utah served as an enforcement arm of the sect. The towns deny the allegations.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 20-year-old man accused of brandishing a handgun on the crowded Las Vegas Strip was brought masked and restrained in a wheelchair to court, where a judge declared him a public danger and set bail at $2 million. Kahleal Black sat moaning through his court appearance. Black's brothers later said he had stopped taking medication for schizophrenia several days before the incident.
