SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City has announced the birth of a giraffe named Willow.
The zoo said in a release that the female giraffe was born on Jan. 13. She already stands at about 6 feet tall and weighs around 125 pounds.
Giraffe keeper Holly Peterson says Willow's mother, Pogo, has been "protective and attentive" over the little one.
Willow's father, Riley, recently returned to the zoo after staying in Oregon while the Hogle's African Savanna exhibit was completed.
The zoo said the weather still needs to warm up before Willow will be able to greet the public.
Willow is the 17th giraffe born at the zoo since the animals were introduced in 1969.
