SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who was fatally shot by Utah police after he killed an officer had both federal and state warrants issued for his arrest. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says Cory Henderson had a prior criminal record. Authorities say Henderson fled the scene of a traffic accident and then fatally shot Unified police Officer Douglas Barney. Henderson then died in a shootout with police that left Officer Jon Richey wounded. Police say Richey is hospitalized but his condition has improved.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah senator will introduce a bill this legislative session to outlaw smoking lounges in the Salt Lake City airport. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Utah airport includes five smoking lounges equipped with ventilation systems that filter smoke outside the building. An airport spokeswoman says these spaces help reduce the number of people smoking at airport entrances.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities have identified the man who died after his vehicle struck several poles and rolled over in West Valley. The Deseret News reports that police say 26-year-old Joshua Pulido was ejected from the vehicle in the Saturday morning crash. Police are investigating whether impairment or speed contributed to the crash.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials have recently settled cases with four municipalities accused of illegally dumping wastewater into rivers and streams. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Salt Lake City, Springville, Lehi and Murray have agreed to pay the state Division of Water Quality to resolve the complaints.
