SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who was fatally shot by Utah police after he killed an officer had both federal and state warrants issued for his arrest. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Cory Lee Henderson had a prior criminal record but did not go into further details. Authorities say Henderson fled the scene of a traffic accident and then fatally shot Unified police Officer Douglas Barney. Henderson then died in a shootout with police that left Officer Jon Richey with three gunshot wounds. Police say Richey is hospitalized but his condition has improved.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials have recently settled cases with four municipalities accused of illegally dumping wastewater into rivers and streams. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Salt Lake City, Springville, Lehi and Murray have agreed to pay the state Division of Water Quality to resolve the complaints.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A Utah lawmaker is seeking private donations for a tribute honoring a Washington City man who would have been his intern this legislative session. The Spectrum of St. George reports that State Sen. Jim Dabakis has already pledged his legislative salary, which amounts to more than $12,000, toward a dormitory for homeless children near Cuernavaca, Mexico. The facility will be named for Zachary Lusk.

DENVER (AP) — Suspicion over federal plans to restore endangered wolves in the Southwest has spread to Colorado and Utah, where ranchers and officials are fiercely resisting any attempt to import the predators. About 110 Mexican gray wolves roam parts of Arizona and New Mexico. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hopes to complete a recovery plan for the Mexican wolf in 2017.
