GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Francis Alonso scored 24 points and North Carolina-Greensboro used a big first half to roll to an 85-68 win over VMI on Sunday.

Diante Baldwin added 15 points, RJ White 14, Asad Lamont 13 and Marvin Smith 11 for the Spartans (6-12, 2-3 Southern Conference), who made 10 of 22 3-pointers and shot 58 percent from the field (29 of 50). Alonso was 9 of 11 from the field, made 4 of 6 3s and had seven assists. Baldwin made all five of his shots and White was 7 of 9 with eight rebounds.

Julian Eleby, Trey Chapman and Tim Marshall hit consecutive 3-pointers to put VMI up 19-8 less than seven minutes into the game. The Spartans went on an 18-2 run, limiting the Keydets to two free over 11 minutes. It was 43-25 at the half.

QJ Peterson scored 14 points for VMI (5-11, 0-5), which shot 35 percent (23 of 66).
