ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio University has banned hoverboards in campus buildings, joining the list of schools restricting use of the two-wheeled, self-balancing motorized scooters amid safety concerns.
The school says that those found in possession of hoverboards inside OU buildings will be asked to remove them or risk confiscation.
The Athens Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/1PXZw6M ) the university's Office of Risk Management and Safety also issued a safety alert advising users to be aware of hazards associated with hoverboards, including falls causing serious injuries or fires.
The school says the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating reports of 28 hoverboard-related fires.
At Ohio State and Xavier universities, students were told they could bring hoverboards only if they come with a seal showing the gadgets meet certain safety standards.
