PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Adrian Rodgers and Jared Sam scored 15 each and Southern held on for a 69-55 victory, spoiling Arkansas-Pine Bluff's conference home opener on Saturday night.
Sam also had eight rebounds and Rashad Andrews added 12 points for the Jaguars (11-7, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who won their third in a row.
Rodgers made 3 of 10 from 3-point range and Southern went 5 of 16. Pine Bluff was just 4 of 28 from distance.
Southern led by nine at the half and opened the second with an 8-4 run to lead 40-27 with 15:49 left. The Jaguars pushed to a 61-44 advantage with 3:52 left before a drama-free finish.
Marquis Cunningham had 15 points and Thaddeus Handley added 13 for the Golden Lions (3-15, 1-3). Pine Bluff was coming off a 59-55 win against Alabama State on Monday that snapped a nine-game losing streak.
