CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Rashawn Thomas had a career-high 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 76-71 win over Nicholls on Saturday night.
Thomas was 10 of 18 from the floor and made 11 of 13 from the free throw line. Brandon Pye added 14 points and Hameed Ali dished out nine assists for the Islanders (13-3, 4-0 Southland Conference) who have won six straight. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi continues to improve on its best start in program history.
The Islanders were up 41-24 at the break, but Nicholls charged back in the second. Ja'Dante' Frye hit a trey and added a layup to close to 63-61 at the 3:23 mark. Thomas answered with a jumper and Pye followed with a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to 68-61.
Frye finished with 29; Liam Thomas added 17 and T.J. Carpenter chipped in 13 for Nicholls (5-13, 1-3).
