Coppin State beats Bethune-Cookman 62-54 to end losing skid

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Christian Kessee scored 14 points, Keith Shivers finished with 10 points and nine rebounds and Coppin State snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 62-54 win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.

Kessee shot 5 for 13 from the field but was 4 for 6 from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Eagles hadn't won since Nov. 23. With the win, Coppin State (3-14, 1-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic) now owns a 50-11 all-time series record against Bethune-Cookman (5-13, 2-2).

The Eagles led 35-28 at the half and continued to remain in control. Coppin State shot 11 for 14 from the free-throw line to just 3 for 8 for Bethune-Cookman.

Coppin State's Terry Harris Jr collected 14 rebounds, seven on the offensive end.

Mario Moody scored 14 points and collected eight rebounds for the Wildcats.

Bethune-Cookman also got 12 points from Jordan Potts, and LaRon Smith finished with 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.
