Wagner builds quick lead, defeats CCSU 70-48

NEW YORK (AP) — Corey Henson scored 18 points with three steals and three assists as Wagner jumped on cold-starting Central Connecticut State 70-48 Saturday.

The Seahawks (11-6, 4-2 Northeast) built a 12-0 lead over the first 8:22 as CCSU (1-16, 0-6) missed its first eight shots and committed four turnovers.

Michael Carey scored 13 points with 10 rebounds, and Romone Saunders added 13 points for Wagner, which shot 51 percent (30-59) for the game with 19 assists.

The Blue Devils scored a quick 14 points to start the second half and came within four points three times but no closer. Wagner broke away with a 10-3 run to push the lead back into double digits with 11:12 remaining. Henson scored a basket and a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions and the lead was 59-40 with five minutes left.

Brandon Peel led CCSU with 15 points, but the Blue Devils shot 35 percent (19 of 54) with 17 turnovers.
