CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Aaron Wheeler scored 14 points and Armel Potter sank the winning free throws to lift Charleston Southern to a 64-63 win over Liberty on Thursday night.
Charleston Southern (6-11, 2-4 Big South) had led by as many as 14 in the second half but Liberty (5-14, 2-4) rallied with a 16-2 run capped by Ezra Talbert's 3-pointer to make it 46-45 with 9:58 left. Six lead changes later, Potter sank a pair of free throws to put Charleston Southern back on top and this time the Buccaneers hung on as Liberty missed three straight 3-pointers down the stretch and Reuben King got the final defensive rebound to seal the win.
Demetrius Pollard added 13 points and King finished with 10 for Charleston Southern, which shot 51 percent from the field and snapped a three-game skid.
Caleb Homesley led Liberty with 17 points, John Dawson added 16 and Talbert 11.
