MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. (AP) — An audit of a western Pennsylvania school district confirms that a former superintendent allowed the former special education director to work a second job that prevented her from fulfilling her duties to the district.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1OkSx7q ) the report was released Thursday by state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.
An investigative report commissioned by the Montour School District revealed that special education director Fran Serenka was allowed by former Superintendent Donald Boyer to take a faculty position at Duquesne University at the same time she was collecting her $110,000 salary from the district.
The arrangement was permitted by Boyer without board approval. Officials say Boyer told investigators he had the authority to make the agreement.
The district says it plans to require administrators to report outside employment.
