SEATTLE (AP) — The Cuban men's and women's national rowing teams will highlight the 30th Windermere Cup regatta to be held on Lake Washington in May.

The University of Washington announced the competitors for the annual premiere rowing competition on Wednesday. It's believed to be one of the few times a Cuban national team has competed in the United States since diplomatic relations between the countries were severed in 1961. The re-establishment of relations between the countries last summer was the catalyst for this opportunity.

The inclusion of the Cuban teams also comes on the 30th anniversary of the Soviet Union national teams participating in the Windermere Cup.

The men's team from Stanford and women's team from San Diego will also compete in the May 7 event.
