DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has visited a Detroit-area college to talk about refugees and partnerships with local communities.
Jeh Johnson appeared Wednesday afternoon at the University of Michigan's Dearborn campus.
The Detroit News says Johnson was to meet with refugees and talk to students about countering violent extremism. During President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech, a Syrian refugee who was recently settled in the Detroit area was first lady Michelle Obama's guest.
