HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AP) — Officials at Utah's Hill Air Force Base are looking for people who can help clean up the environmental damage caused by older aircraft maintenance practices.
The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1SMkFU9 ) that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says maintenance performed at Hill from the World War II era to the 1980s sent waste materials like solvents, de-greasers, fuels, acids and metals into communities surrounding the base.
Hill is still dealing with the environmental repercussions of those practices. Officials are looking for applicants to serve on the Restoration Advisory Board, which works with the Air Force on cleanup projects.
The board was formed in 1995. Today, it is composed of people from the affected communities and representatives from the Sierra Club and government agencies.
