LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas city officials are gauging the response to rules put in place in recent weeks to regulate street performers on the downtown on Fremont Street casino and pedestrian mall.
City Attorney Brad Jerbic (JER'-bik) will host a meeting Tuesday at the city council chambers at City Hall about a municipal ordinance that went into effect in November.
Performers now have to register with the city online, describing their act or costume, and enter a lottery for available spots on the five-block stretch between Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Buskers are assigned one of 38 specific zones to work between 3 p.m. and 1 a.m. They rotate zones every two hours.
Some performers have criticized the new system, saying it limits their acts and could cost them money.
