CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A district judge has put Nevada's sweeping school choice program on hold just weeks before money was expected to flow to parents for private school tuition. The preliminary injunction orders the state treasurer to stop implementing Nevada's new education savings accounts pending further court deliberations. Thousands of families who applied were told they could receive funds by February if courts didn't object.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nye County prosecutors say they won't charge Lamar Odom after the former NBA star was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel with cocaine in his system. District Attorney Angela Bello says the evidence didn't prove that Odom used the drug during his three days in the county, so he could not be charged there. Odom had been found unconscious at Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say two people have died after a speeding SUV lost control and fell off an overpass near Las Vegas. North Las Vegas police say the SUV struck a median and rolled off the overpass above Interstate 15. It fell 27 feet. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the two people who died as 52-year-old Rocky Dewayne Dean, of Las Vegas and 58-year-old Belinda Ann West, of North Las Vegas.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man has died after a shooting in north Carson City. The Carson City Sheriff's Office reports that the victim arrived at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the stomach. Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide resulting from a drug transaction. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.
