MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Ghiavonni Robinson scored 15 points, including two clutch free throws down the stretch, to help Arkansas-Pine Bluff beat Alabama State 59-55 on Monday night.
The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and was the Golden Lions first road win since their season opening victory at Seattle University.
After two Tony Armstrong free throws gave Alabama State a 53-51 lead with 1:50 to go, the Golden Lions (3-14, 1-2 SWAC) scored eight of the next nine points to grab a 59-54 lead with eight seconds to go and ice the game.
Marquis Cunningham made back-to-back layups which gave Arkansas-Pine Bluff the lead, and Robinson's pair of foul shots on the ensuing possession made it a two score game.
Armstrong scored 20 points to lead the Hornets (6-10, 1-3), who were outshot by the Golden Lions 47.9 percent to 33.3 percent.
