BELEN, Argentina (AP) — Stephane Peterhansel of France moved into the overall lead in the car category of the Dakar Rally on Monday.

Peterhansel finished third in Monday's eighth stage, enough to push him into the overall lead.

Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar won the stage, 12 seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz of Spain and 31 seconds in front of Peterhansel.

Peterhansel has won Dakar a record 11 times — five in cars, and six on bikes.

In bikes on Monday, Australian rider Toby Price won the stage and took the overall lead.

Price finished 5:17 in front of Paulo Goncalves of Portugal. Pablo Quintanilla of Chile was third, 6:32 behind. Price leads Goncalves by 2:05 in the overall and is 14:14 ahead of Stefan Svitko of Slovakia.

The rally ends Saturday in Rosario, Argentina.
