CAVALESE, Italy (AP) — Therese Johaug erased a deficit of nearly 40 seconds entering the final stage to win her second Tour de Ski title Sunday.

Johaug, who also won the week-long event in 2014, was fastest on the finishing climb up Mount Cermis to win by 2 minutes, 20.9 seconds ahead of Norwegian teammate Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg.

Heidi Weng, another Norwegian, finished third overall, 3:13.9 behind, after the concluding 9-kilometer freestyle pursuit leg.

Johaug passed Oestberg on the bottom of the climb.

"It worked better than I had hoped," said Johaug, who claimed her third stage in this year's eight-leg event.

In the men's event, Martin Johnsrud Sundby won his third consecutive title by a 3:15.7 margin ahead of fellow Norwegian Finn Haagen Krogh.

Sergey Ustiogov of Russia took third, 3:43.8 behind, while Petter Northug Jr. dropped from second to fourth on the final day.

Sundby opened up a huge 550-point lead ahead of Krogh in the overall World Cup standings.

Northug is the only skier to have completed all 10 Tours.

Sundby won four of the eight stages.

"It has been a perfect Tour for me. I had one bad day," Sundby said, referring to a stage in Oberstdorf earlier this week in which he finished 23rd. "But everything has been perfect."
