MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Jamel Waters' had 13 points, and his late layup at the end of overtime proved to be the difference as Alabama State beat Mississippi Valley State 75-74 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs took their only lead in overtime when Damian Young made 1 of 2 free throws with 31 seconds. Alabama State's Bobby Brown missed a 3 as time was expiring, but Waters grabbed the rebound and his put-back won it.

Alabama State (6-9, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic) got 13 points from Tony Armstrong and Mikel Tyson, and Torloft Thomas added 12.

Marcus Romain led Mississippi Valley State (1-15, 1-1) with 23 points on 8-for-27 shooting.

Williams' 3 gave Mississippi Valley State a 65-60 lead with 3:04 to play in regulation before the Delta Devils rallied. Thomas made two free throws to tie it with 13 seconds left.
