BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) — Kyle Thomas scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting and Morgan State held off a late rally to beat Delaware State 63-58 on Saturday in the Hornets' Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
Andre Horne scored 13 for the Bears (3-12, 1-1), who never trailed, outscored the Hornets 32-16 in the paint and led by as many as 17 in the second half.
Delaware State (1-14, 0-1) rallied to within 59-54 with 1:21 left after Devin Morgan hit back-to-back jumpers, then trailed by four after Morgan's two free throws with 28 seconds left.
Aric Dickerson missed a 3-pointer, and then fouled Morgan State's Thomas, who made one of two free throws to seal the win. Morgan missed a 3 with seven seconds to go.
Morgan scored a career-high 27 points on 7-of-17 shooting and made all 10 of his free throws for Delaware State, which shot 41 percent. Dana Raysor scored nine, all in the second half.
