BAD GASTEIN, Austria (AP) — Austrian snowboarders Alexander Payer and Sabine Schoeffmann won a World Cup parallel mixed-team event on Saturday.
Competing as Austria 2, the pair beat Germany's Stefan Baumeister and Selina Joerg in the final.
It was Austria's first ever victory in a mixed-team event, and also a maiden World Cup win for Payer. Schoeffmann had won an individual parallel slalom before. The Austrians beat their higher-ranked compatriots Benjamin Karl and Julia Dujmovits in the quarterfinals.
Russia 2, with Vic Wild and Alena Zavarzina, finished third after winning the small final against Dario Caviezel and Julie Zogg of Switzerland 2.
The next Alpine snowboard event is a parallel giant slalom in Rogla, Slovenia, on Jan. 23.
