RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 57-year-old Elko woman has been arrested in the 2003 killing of her husband after new leads led detectives to a shallow grave in northern Nevada's high desert. Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Allen told The AP late yesterday authorities believe Pam Erwin fatally stabbed James Erwin in Golconda three months before he was reported missing. Allen says DNA tests confirmed the victim's identity. His body was found in the foothills near Golconda south of Interstate 80.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nearly two years after Las Vegas police quit responding to non-injury accidents to cut costs and focus on reducing fatal wrecks, the department is going back to covering every crash. The policy change follows a boost in the Clark County sales tax from 8.1 to 8.15 percent to hire more police officers. Motorists can call 311 to report non-injury fender-benders.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are appealing to Nevada Democrats, looking beyond Iowa and New Hampshire in a presidential contest that could play a major role in determining the nomination. Clinton, Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley went before a raucous crowd at the state party's caucus dinner last night. Clinton has led in Nevada polls but Sanders has poured money and staff into the state, seeking an upset victory.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — John Gillon sank a free throw in the final second to give Colorado State the win, edging UNLV 66-65 last night. Gillon's winning free throw came with a second on the clock after UNLV's Patrick McCaw hit a layup to tie the game at 65 with seven seconds remaining. Gillon was fouled with a second to play and went to the line for two. He missed the first. Ben Carter led UNLV with 16 points.
