ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Marcus Romain scored 20 points and Mississippi Valley State won its first game of the season, 66-60, over Arkansas Pine Bluff on Monday night.
The Delta Devils (1-14, 1-0 SWAC) had lost 14 in a row by an average of 22 points per game to open the 2015-16 campaign, all of which came on the road.
Isaac Williams finished with 15 points for Mississippi Valley State and Ta'Jay Henry added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Delta Devils were outshot by the Golden Lions 46-42.2 percent and hit five fewer 3-pointers (9-4) but they forced 24 Arkansas Pine Bluff turnovers while limiting themselves to only nine.
Charles Johnson led the Golden Lions (2-13, 0-1) with 13 points. Deshon Bayless and Thaddeus Handley each added 12 points.
Arkansas Pine Bluff has lost eight straight and 13 of 14 after an opening night win over Seattle University.
