WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Malachi Alexander made seven of his eight shots and scored 17 points to help Holy Cross beat in-state rival Boston University 80-64 on Wednesday night in the Turnpike Trophy competition.
Alexander had 12 points in the first half but Holy Cross trailed 40-35. Holy Cross went on a 10-0 run over the first three-plus minutes of the second half to take a 45-40 lead. BU pulled to 54-51 before Alexander scored five points during another 10-0 run.
Karl Charles added 15 points for Holy Cross (6-6), which had six players make a 3-pointer. Cullen Hamilton and Robert Champion scored 11 points apiece.
Nathan Dieudonne led BU (7-7) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Cheddi Mosely made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points.
BU holds a 5-2 lead in the competition for the trophy, which is awarded to the school with the most head-to-head victories at the end of the academic year.
