NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Justin Sears scored 15 points, and Brandon Sherrod finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds as Yale dominated Central Connecticut 62-42 Wednesday night.
Yale (6-5) sprinted to a 23-10 lead on the strength of six-straight points by Sears. His layup at the 11:20 mark in the first half gave the Bulldogs the lead for good at 9-7. He followed with a jumper and layup and Yale was off and running.
A basket by Brandon Peel and Austin Nehls' 3 cut Yale's lead to 23-15, but Central Connecticut would get no closer for the rest of the game. The Bulldogs led 31-18 at halftime.
After the intermission, Yale outscored the Blue Devils 17-10 in the first 10 minutes of the half.
Nehls and Malik Toppin each scored 10 points to lead Central Connecticut State (1-10).
Yale controlled the boards with a 51-28 edge — including 21 offensive rebounds.
