TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Devonta Pollard scored 20 points, Damyean Dotson hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute and Houston turned back South Florida 73-67 Wednesday in the American Conference opener for both teams.

Bo Zeigler's dunk pulled South Florida within one with 1:11 to play. Houston's Xavier Dupree got the ball at the right elbow and, as he went up, he dished to Dotson in the right corner for his fifth 3-pointer with 45.7 seconds left. Rob Gray Jr. then made a steal in backcourt that led to two free throws by Ronnie Johnson at 34.9 seconds to make it 72-66 and the Bulls couldn't answer.

Gray finished with 19 points and Dotson had 17 for the Cougars (11-2).

Chris Perry led the Bulls (3-11) with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jahmal McMurray had 18 points. Jaleel Cousins grabbed 10 rebounds as South Florida had a 45-23 advantage on the boards.
