Coach Dabo (DA'-boh) Swinney has announced the suspension of three backup players for violating team rules. He says that if the Tigers were to beat Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl the players would not be eligible for the national championship game.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jeffrey Lurie, has explained his decision to fire coach Chip Kelly. At a news conference, Lurie said it wasn't a rash move but one he thought about for the three years Kelly was in charge of the team. Lurie said that by canning Kelly now he would have more time to search for a new coach.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota (mar-ee-OH'-tah) of the Titans will miss the final game of the season. Interim head coach Mike Mularkey says Mariota, who finishes his rookie season with 19 touchdown passes and just over 28-hundred yards passing, is out with a sprained right knee.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — The 19th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers are now 11-1. They got 18 points from Jevon Carter this afternoon in an 88-63 road win over Virginia Tech.
NEW YORK (AP) — A member of the New York Knicks, Cleanthony Early, is recuperating from a gunshot wound he suffered while being robbed early this morning. The incident took place outside a strip club in Queens, New York, around 4:30 a.m. Early was shot in the right leg as the masked robbers stole a necklace and other things that belonged to him.
