Oil prices are inflating the cost of asphalt. A ton of hot mix costs 80 percent more than what it did in January.

Now the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) says completion of 10 to 15 percent of its projects may be at risk if prices continue to soar.

Easton says 120 projects right now require asphalt and crews need an estimated 1.1 million tons of hot mix.

Officials hope things will stabilize by next year, but they remain optimistic they'll be able to deliver on everything they promised this year.
