NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are broadly higher in afternoon trading on Wall Street, lifted by rising oil prices and encouraging data on consumer confidence. Technology and energy companies were among the biggest gainers. Retailers also rose.

UNDATED (AP) — DuPont says it will cut 1,700 jobs in its home state of Delaware and thousands more globally as it prepares for its merger with Dow Chemical. The companies announced earlier this month that they would join to create a giant chemical producer that will eventually be split into three independent companies. The company has approximately 54,000 employees worldwide and says the restructuring program will affect about 10 percent of that workforce.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has closed a portion of the Mississippi River near St. Louis due to flooding. Capt. Martin Malloy cited high water levels and fast currents as the river continues to approach near-record levels in St. Louis. The river has been shut down to all vessel traffic from mile marker 179 to mile marker 184. The Mississippi is a vital transportation hub for barges that carry agricultural products and other goods.

NEW YORK (AP) — The biotech company formerly run by Martin Shkreli (SHKREL'-ee) is appealing a decision by Nasdaq to delist the company from its stock market. San Francisco-based KaloBios was notified last week that Nasdaq would move to delist the company's stock because of Shkreli's arrest on securities fraud charges and other issues. Shkreli gained notoriety when another company he led, Turing Pharmaceuticals, hiked the price of a life-saving drug by 5,000 percent.

UNDATED (AP) — Macy's is recalling two Martha Stewart frying pans after customers said metal discs popped off and caused bruises, burns and welts. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says there were seven reports of metal discs popping off the frying pans and three reports of injuries. The 8-inch and 10-inch frying pans were sold as part of a Martha Stewart Collection 10-piece cookware set that was sold at Macy's stores and on its website for four years, until September. They were also sold on military bases.
