WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Tim Lester was hired Monday as Purdue's new quarterbacks coach.

The former Western Michigan star was the offensive coordinator the last two seasons at Syracuse, where he also coached quarterbacks from 2013-15.

Boilermakers coach Darrell Hazell said he's eager to see how Purdue's young players develop under Lester.

Lester has worked as an assistant at Elmhurst College, a Division II school in Illinois, as well as Western Michigan and North Central College. He also went 33-19 as the head coach at Elmhurst from 2008-12 before moving to Syracuse.

He finished his college career with the fourth-highest passing total in FBS history, 11,299 yards, and No. 6 all-time in touchdown passes (89).
